Alopecia Sisters

Youngest sisters in the country to battle alopecia.

This year Pink had the great privilege of working with Faye and Emily Sandford, aged 7 and 9 they are the youngest sisters in the country to battle with alopecia, Faye was just two years old when the first patch appeared and the doctors thought that she was run down after an illness, then more patches began to appear, which their mother tried to disguise by wrapping over longer pieces of hair.

A year later Emily then five started to lose her hair too and the girls were referred to a dermatologist, the girls were then diagnosed with Alopecia Areata, a condition where the immune system attacks the hair folliclies, unfortunatley tests have shown that their hair will never grow back.

The girls story was featured in the News of the World in March of this year and we asked the girls parents Paula and Dave if they would allow us to make wigs for the girls that would look more real and natural than the ones that they were wearing in the article.

The family came into the salon a few weeks later to have shapes and measurements taken of their heads, they each chose a colour that they wanted and a style that they thought they would like, then it was a waiting game which was hard for the girls as it can take upto 10 weeks for a custom designed unit to be made, but they did wait and after what must have seemed like an eternity the wigs arrived and the family were invited back to the salon.

Although the wigs were made to measure there was still plenty of work to be done to get them looking just right and the girls were kept amused and pampered with manicures and pedicure whilst the work was completed.

Linda worked hard to style the wigs for the girls so that they looked as natural as possible and the results speak for themselves, the girls loved their new look and were more than happy to pose for photographs.

Losing your hair can be a very traumatic experience at any age and more information should be available to people about what is available for short and long term hair loss, if you would or anyone you know is suffering as a result of hair loss then please contact one of the Pink team, restoring your confidence by changing your visual appearance is easier and cheaper than you may imagine.
